“For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.”
So many of the world’s superstars have had their foundation in gospel music—Elvis Presley, Whitney Houston, Justin Bieber, Patti LaBelle, most of the African American singers, and hundreds of others. In fact, if you research the lives of many superstars, you will find that several have a background in gospel or grew up singing gospel in church.
Gospel music helps you find your super voice (supernatural voice), break barriers, limits, and explode you to a whole new level.
Most singing students never find their super voice; they stay in a lane called fake and generic and do not realize that while most sing technically from their minds, there is a completely different sound—their spirit sound.
They train for years, and many seem to miss the mark. Most singers stay in the box of generic and never mine for their flair, never push boundaries, and never reach their next level.
I believe there is power in gospel music to penetrate deep into the soul and spirit, manifesting a singer’s true identity, edge, and brand. I also believe it is only gospel music that does this. It’s the word of God in gospel music that penetrates and then manifests the gold inside—the genius inside.
In my book “A Journey from Heaven to Healing,” I give a personal testimony about my life, my near-death experience, and how real heaven is, as well as Jesus and the power of the Holy Spirit to me. I would not be here if not for His mercy, grace, and glory. As someone who has trained in opera and classical music, I found the gospel training approach and the whole Jaanz approach liberating and empowering. My voice was healed from hardened nodules, and I am a living, breathing miracle. I have also seen this power of gospel and the Jaanz approach transform so many students into artists, professionals, coaches, and stars. This has resulted in the greatest track record of stars and national champions in the history of Australian music from the Jaanz approach.
Absolutely great technique is important, but not at the expense of killing the artist. Uniqueness is power, and sometimes the points of difference in a singer may be trained out by coaches who are inexperienced and don’t see coaching as more than high notes, low notes, vocal riffs, and acrobatics.
“Great coaching is about teaching great technique while preserving the uniqueness in an artist, allowing the artist to breathe, grow, develop vocal signatures, trademarks, and become a complete artist.”
My belief is that gospel music—and only gospel music—helps a singer find their own sound, and it is critical to brand building, as it has the power to go deep and pull out greatness.
Most traditional approaches to training, while good, deal only with the outer singer, whereas gospel deals with the inner singer. Finding the inner singer is the key to finding your greatness—your super voice or supernatural voice.
“Combining gospel training with a great technical approach builds the ultimate singer.”
The legacy continues.
